My father always said the only tool he ever needed was his index finger, so he could dial up the repair man. He wasn’t kidding because we didn’t even have a hammer in the house, After college, I was a youth counselor in Iowa City, IA. One day in 1973, a friend told me they were hiring carpenters at an apartment construction site. Why not? I convinced the boss I had 2 years of experience and was hired. 3 months later I was a crew lead man. I had found my passion. 46 years later, I still look forward to going to work and am still learning new things.
In 1977, I went into business for myself. Along the way, I built houses, did major remodel projects, was the contractor on historical restorations, became a certified Home Inspector and studied furniture making for a year. In 1994, I became The Fixician specializing in home repairs and small to medium home renovation projects. In the last 25 years, The Fixician has completed over 1500 home repair and improvement projects. That is a lot of projects and a lot of years.
To my good fortune, I have had a very skilled and dedicated associate, Alex, working with me for the last 15 years. He also happens to be my stepson.

Right out of high school, I did two things; I volunteered at a fire department and landed a job doing tile work and hardwood flooring. I became a career firefighter shortly after joining the fire service, however, I always did construction work on the side. The fire department taught me so much about building construction because, over a 17-year career, I was teaching, doing building preplans, and, of course, responding to incidents where we would dismantle a home to get our job done.
Working with Chuck for 15 years now, I have learned the tested and true methods for doing jobs right. I am inspired everyday alongside The Fixician because every day is a learning experience and the outcome is always beautiful. My ultimate goal is to make sure you, as our customer, are satisfied when we complete your project. I hope to continue The Fixician business for many decades to come and someday I hope my children will work with me just like I’ve gotten to do with Chuck.
